Nunchucks are a commonly used weapon in martial arts made of two wooden sticks connected with a chain or rope. Nunchucks are known for their speed and style. One of the basic moves for a new nunchuck artist is the spin. The goal of the spin is for the nunchuck to appear as if one of the sticks is spinning.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get into ready position with your feet shoulder-width apart and your nunchuck over your shoulder. Check your grip. Your hand needs to be one thumb length from the rope on the nunchuck.

  2. Step 2

Swing your arm to waist height while holding one side of the nunchucks. Make circles with your wrist. Get that basic spin down before moving on.

  3. Step 3

Open your grip and pinch the nunchuck with your thumb and forefinger. This controls the nunchuck but allows it to have motion. It's normal to lose control the first few times as you learn the move. Simply slow the spin down and try again.

  4. Step 4

Push the nunchuck with the fingers and pad of the same hand, in time with the spin of the other nunchuck. Push one way with the fingers and back the other way with the pad of your hand.

  5. Step 5

Turn your wrist in circular motions as you spin the nunchucks. Spin the weapon in a counter-clockwise motion to make the nunchucks appear as a solid stick

  6. Step 6

Speed up the movement as you become more confident. Add the spin to different moves to create combinations.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep a good distance from others when practicing. The nunchuck may slip and hit someone.
