Nunchucks are martial arts weapons made of two sticks bound together at one end by a chain or rope. Although designed as a weapon, nunchucks are now mostly used for contests and exhibitions. The nunchuck switch-up allows you to switch hands in a creative way.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nunchucks
  1. Step 1

Get into your practice stance. This may vary depending on the style on martial arts you study. Most martial arts use a simple stance with your feet shoulder-width apart.

  2. Step 2

Place one side of the nunchucks in your right hand. Hold one side of the nunchuck with your thumb pointing toward the chain or rope. Move your hand up the nunchuck until it is a thumb's length from the top.

  3. Step 3

Raise your right hand up and swing the nunchucks backward over your right shoulder. Do not swing too hard or the bottom side of the nunchucks will swing up and hit your arm. Swing it so the nunchucks hangs under your arm.

  4. Step 4

Move your left hand across your body and grab the nunchuck from under your arm. You don't have to worry about hand position yet.

  5. Step 5

Release your right hand and slide your left hand onto the nunchuck. It needs to be two thumb lengths from the top of the nunchuck. Pull the nunchucks across your body to the left side.

  6. Step 6

Repeat Steps 3 through 5, but this time use your left hand.

  7. Step 7

Practice this move alternating hands each time. Once you get the movement down, speed up the move.
