Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Determine where you want to add the trim. The side corners or the top of the bag are excellent areas to add the trim. You do not want to add too much trim or allow the trim to take away from the overall effect of the bag.

  2. Step 2

Measure and cut the trim to the appropriate length. You may want to add a little extra length to fold under to prevent fraying.

  3. Step 3

Pin the trim to the area you want to sew it. This will help you to attach the trim in a straight line. If you are used a folding trim be sure to fold the edges down evenly.

  4. Step 4

Use your sewing machine to attach the trim to the bag. Be sure to remove the pins as you go.

  5. Step 5

Trim your threads and flip to the other side of the bag to add the rest of the trim.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may consider using a piping trim to really make the bag stand out. You can purchase piping trim at your fabric store or make it yourself.
  • If you use Rick Rack, be sure to purchase the sewing kind. The crafting kind does not wash well.
