How to Pin a Headband

Headbands are hot accessories, and nothing's hotter than making one yourself. Elastic headbands are cheap, fast and easy to make. In this article, we'll explain how to pin a headband after you've cut out your fabric. Grab some cute fabric, some elastic and your sewing machine and read on for more instructions.

Things You’ll Need:

• Measuring tape
• Fabric
• Scissors
• Straight pins
• Sewing machine

1. Measure your head (or the head of the person for whom you're making a headband) and cut your fabric this length. The width you cut your fabric depends on how wide you want your headband to be-an average width is about 4 inches.
2. Fold your strip of fabric in half lengthwise with the wrong side out. Use straight pins to hold the fabric together evenly while you sew.
3. Stitch the fabric together on your sewing machine. Backstitch your seam at the beginning and end for extra durability. You are now ready to cut elastic for your headband.

Tips & Warnings

• Never sew over straight pins on a sewing machine. You can break your needle and damage your machine.
