You can mix polymer clay beads with glass, wood or other types of beads for an interesting variation on your jewelry. The first step is picking out colors for your project. Polymer clay comes in a wide variety of colors from which to choose, and you can change the shades by mixing them.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a color scheme for your jewelry project. If you're going to be working with other beads and making polymer clay beads to complement them, decide what colors work best with the beads you have.

  2. Step 2

Choose 2 to 3 colors to avoid making your beads too busy. A standard block of polymer clay will typically provide enough clay to make a full necklace of dime-sized beads.

  3. Step 3

Choose colors that you can blend together on a single bead to produce swirled patterns or fully blend to change the shade. Color combinations like yellow and green or blue and purple work better than combinations that may look dingy when blended.

  4. Step 4

Get gemstone colors and metallic colors of polymer clay to make faux gem or metallic beads. You can sculpt these clays to create distinctive beads with interesting textures.

  5. Step 5

Get clear polymer clay (or a neutral color) to use for the center of a bead so that you don't have to waste clay making large beads. You can also use foil instead of clay to fill the space.
