Polymer is a versatile clay that is great for making jewelry. It's easy to mix clay colors to create many different textures and effects. Mastering the art of rolling a basic round bead is essential to most polymer jewelry projects.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with a clean surface. Make sure that it is free of debris and residual polymer dyes, as both of these can discolor your beads.

  2. Step 2

Cut out the appropriate amount of clay from the larger block or mixture that you're working with. If you are making multiple beads, cut identical amounts for the beads you are going to shape.

  3. Step 3

Use the palm of your hand to shape the bead. Leave the piece of polymer on the work surface and roll the polymer clay in a continuous circular motion. If the polymer clay has been recently mixed, this will take less time than if you are working with a solid color that has just been cut from a clay block.

  4. Step 4

Apply even pressure. The harder you press, the more difficult it will be to maintain a round shape, because you will constantly be misshaping it every time you roll it.

  5. Step 5

Repeat this process for each bead. After rolling, move the beads gently to avoid flattening them. Compare the finished beads and make any size adjustments to make the beads uniform.
