You can use many different techniques to create polymer clay jewelry, but if you're tired of making plain beads, consider creating a pendant. Taking the time to create this centerpiece can give your project a focal point.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Polymer clay
  • Small rolling pin
  • Stone or rubber stamp for decoration
  • Bakeable transfer color medium
  • Utility knife
  • Needle or poker
  • Wax paper
  1. Step 1

Place wax paper on a hard, flat surface. Use this as your work surface.

  2. Step 2

Choose a design. The concept of a pendant can assume a basic shape, such as a circle, rectangle or teardrop. Sketch your idea on paper before you begin molding the clay.

  3. Step 3

Mix the colors. Work primary polymer clay colors into secondary colors according to the design. If you are caning the polymer, assemble the caned design by twisting one or more colors together to create swirls.

  4. Step 4

Flatten your polymer with a small rolling pin. Roll out or slice the caned design to about a 1/4-inch thick. Cut out the shape according to your template.

  5. Step 5

Lift the pendant from the wax paper and smooth the edges with your fingers. Lay your pendant back onto the wax paper, and then apply a stone or rubber stamp to add texture to your pendant. You also can use bakeable transfer color medium as a glue to adhere any stones or other embellishments to the pendant.

  6. Step 6

Finalize your design by smoothing any rough or uneven edges. Use a needle to poke a hole to string your pendant, and then bake the polymer according to the package instructions.
