How to Place a Soy Candle Wick

The placement of your wick affects how a soy candle burns. If the wick is too small, the candle burns unevenly and if it's too big, it can smoke and leave soot on your candle container. Take a few extra minutes to measure and place a soy candle wick properly so that your candles burn safely.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the container. Place the container in the middle of a circle template (usually marked with a "bull's-eye" or dark circle) to get the diameter of the candle container. Use the measurement at the widest part of the container to find the proper wick size.

    • 2

Grab a wick made for your candle container's measurements. Wicks come measured in the proper diameter for certain sized candles.

    • 3

Remove the bottom side of the wick sticker to expose its sticky side. If you don't have a wick sticker, double-sided tape works fine.

    • 4

Stick the wick sticker in the middle of the candle container. With the container sitting on top of the circle template, place the wick in the center of the template. The center is marked with a bulls-eye or dark circle.

    • 5

Push the wick sticker down using a craft stick so it adheres to the bottom of the candle container. Once you've done this, remove the top side of the wick sticker to expose its sticky side.

    • 6

Place the bottom of the wick on top of the wick sticker. Press the metal bottom of the wick down with a craft stick to make sure it adheres to the wick sticker.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a cloth tape measurer if you don't have a circle template. Measure across the widest area of your container and divide the measurement by two to get the center of your container.

  • Avoid touching the sticky sides of the wick stickers to keep from getting dirt and oil from your fingers on them.
