When making your own soy candles, you can add some finishing touches before giving them as gifts. Or you can decorate store bought candles to give them a personal touch. Use your imagination, and look around your home for things to use when finishing candles.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check that the top surface of your soy candle is smooth. If you pour the soy into the jar when it is too hot, it cools with an uneven surface that has small holes in it. Use a hair dryer set on low to warm the soy and smooth it out.

  2. Step 2

Make a decorative label and glue it onto the front of the candle jar. If you candle is scented, print the name of the scent on the label. Decorate the label to reflect any current holidays or the interests of the gift recipient. You can also use your label to identify yourself as the person who made the candle.

  3. Step 3

Fill the lid of your jar. Most candle jars have plastic caps on the bottom of the lid that can be removed with a screwdriver. Remove the cap and put in dried or plastic flowers, colored stones or marbles, colored sand or a picture. Place the lid back on the top of the jar candle. Tie a ribbon around the jar, up near the lid, to finish your candle.

Tips & Warnings
  • Trim the wick of your soy candle to 1/4 to 1/2 inch before lighting.
