Children with active imaginations often name certain types of toys. Stuffed animals and baby dolls commonly carry monikers, as well as action figures and puppets. If your child has a sock puppet monkey that needs a name, you can help by brainstorming possibilities.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Suggest the obvious by proposing standard monkey names. George (of "the Jungle" fame), Kong (King or Donkey) and Jake ("My Gym Partner is a Monkey") are common favorites.
Step2
Offer the names of some historical figures as sock puppet monkey monikers. For example, you might name the puppet Claudius, Beethoven, King George or Napoleon.
Step3
Look to literature for a few ideas. It's a good way to introduce your child to the classics. Shakespeare ("Shakes" for short) or Twain can make great sock puppet monkey names.
Step4
Toss some non-names into the ring and let your child's imagination run wild. Start with Soapdish, Hamstock, Mushmouth and Cheezer, and then see where creative thinking takes you.
Step5
Refer back to the sock puppet monkey's humble origins. He was once a simple sock, so give him a name to fit. Socky, Stinky, or Sockitumi ("sock it to me") are some cute names.
Step6
Consult a baby name site of a site like FunPetNames.com (see Resources below) if all else fails. Name sites offer thousands of names and even alternative spellings. Your child will enjoy finding not only a name for her sock puppet, but its meaning as well.
