How to Peel and Chop Garlic for Chicken in a Pot

Garlic is an herb that grows best when planted in the fall because it likes the cooler weather. There are many recipes for garlic, including breads, sauces, dips and spreads just to name a few. To use this fragrant addition to you meals, you should know how to peel and cut it.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small bowl
  • Cutting board
  • Kitchen knife
  • 2 heads of garlic
  1. Step 1

    Remove the garlic skins from the garlic heads by pressing down while rubbing your thumbs along the garlic in a repeated motion. Place the garlic skins in a small bowl.

  2. Step 2

    Use your thumbs to break the cloves from the head of one garlic bulb.

  3. Step 3

    Place the garlic cloves on the cutting board, flat side down. Lay the flat edge of your knife blade on top of each garlic clove. With your free hand, push down firmly on each of the garlic cloves. The skin should fall off easily.

  4. Step 4

    Place the second head of garlic on your cutting board, cut it in half root and all and set aside.

Tips & Warnings
  • To get rid of the smell of garlic from your hands, wash your hands thoroughly cold water, rub them with lemon juice and salt and wash again with warm soap and water.
  • Store your extra garlic in a cool and dry place.
