The smell of a lasagna baking in the oven certainly can be seductive, with the aromas roasting garlic, onions, Italian herbs and spices wafting through the kitchen. Here are some tips on how to prepare onions and garlic for your lasagna recipe.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Slice both ends of the onion off and peel back the skin. This will allow the round onion to rest comfortably on the cutting board.

  2. Step 2

Cut thin slices of onion working across the onion's surface from left to right. The onion and garlic should "melt" into the lasagna sauce. If you cut your onion too thick, you will have onion chunks in your lasagna.

  3. Step 3

Dice your onions into small bits. Run your chef's knife through the onions one final time over the thin slices to complete the dicing.

  4. Step 4

Place your garlic cloves on your cutting board. Rest the flat edge of your chef's knife on top of the cloves. Smack the flat edge of the blade with the heel of your hand. This will loosen the skin around the garlic.

  5. Step 5

Peel the skin off the garlic cloves. Mince your garlic cloves finely by running your chef's knife through the garlic in one direction and then repeating the motion in the opposite direction. Your garlic and onions are now prepared for your lasagna recipe.
