Walking into a kitchen as a homemade lasagna can pleasantly assault your senses with the enticing smells of garlic, olive oil and spices simmering in the pan. Here are some tips on how to add wine and tomatoes to your sauce.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Precooked onions, garlic, herbs and spices
  • Red wine
  • Large can of tomatoes
  1. Step 1

Cook the base of your homemade tomato sauce for your lasagna. In a stock pot, combine chopped onions, 2 cloves of finely minced garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Allow this to simmer until the onions become clear.

  2. Step 2

Stir some red wine (to taste) into the stock pot. As soon as you pour the wine in, the alcohol will begin to burn off.

  3. Step 3

Add a large can of tomatoes to your stock pot. Stir the sauce until it is well mixed. If you use whole tomatoes, stir until they break up. Continue to let the sauce simmer while you make the filling for your lasagna.
