Portabello mushrooms are a popular substitute for meat in a delicious portabello burger. For a tasty alternative to pizzas with a flour crust, try a portabello pizza. The mushroom has a rich, almost gamey taste that complements the melted cheese and sauce.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 4 to 6 portabello mushrooms
  • 1 cup spaghetti sauce
  • 3/4 cup chopped pepperoni or sausage
  • 1/2 cup Italian salad dressing
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3/4 cup chopped onion
  • Any other pizza toppings
Step1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Rinse mushroom caps with cool water. Carefully use a knife to remove the stem, and use a metal spoon to scrape the gills out of the mushroom. Don't pierce the mushroom cap.
Step2
Brush both sides of the mushroom lightly with the Italian dressing. Cook mushroom caps gill side down on a baking sheet for 8 minutes. Carefully remove the mushrooms from the oven and flip them over, keeping them on the baking sheet.
Step3
Cover the bottom of the mushroom cap with 2 tbsp. spaghetti sauce. Sprinkle in some meat and onions and cover with mozzarella cheese.
Step4
Replace in the oven for 10 minutes. Remove when ready and cool briefly before serving.
