How to Dice Garlic for Salmon

Using garlic with salmon will give the fish a delicious aroma and flavor. Precut or dehydrated garlic lacks doesn't have the clout of the real thing. Chop a fresh clove of garlic for stronger flavors.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Hold a head of garlic sideways on a cutting board. Apply pressure to the head with the palm of your free hand until the cloves break loose.

  2. Step 2

    Separate the cloves from the garlic paper. Choose the largest clove of garlic and set the others aside for later use.

  3. Step 3

    Use a chef's knife to cut off the bottom of the garlic. Lay the knife on the clove sideways. Press on the knife with a rolling motion to crush the clove.

  4. Step 4

    Peel the paper away from the clove. Lay the clove on the cutting board and discard the garlic paper.

  5. Step 5

    Dice the garlic using the chef's knife. Rock the knife back and forth as you cut through the clove.

  6. Step 6

    Push the diced garlic into a pile. Dice it into smaller pieces by rocking the knife through the garlic a second time. Continue to regroup the garlic bits and cut them to the desired consistency.

  7. Step 7

    Gather the diced garlic into a pile with the knife. Slide the garlic into a small bowl and set it aside until you are ready to season the salmon.
