Things You'll Need:
- Garlic clove
- Paring knife
- Food processor or knife
- Olive oil or melted butter
- Skillet
- Slotted spoon
-
Step 1
Purchase a whole garlic bulb from your local grocer. Look for a bulb of garlic that is firm and with its white, papery covering intact. Buy chopped, packaged garlic if you do not want to process the garlic yourself. However, fresh garlic adds more flavor to your cooking.
-
Step 2
Cut the garlic bulb in half with a paring knife. Separate the individual garlic cloves from the garlic bulb with your fingers or a knife. Cut the ends and remove the white outer skin and purplish inner skin of each clove.
-
Step 3
Slice each clove in half. Remove any green sprouts in the center of each clove to prevent a bitter flavor in your garlic. Toss the prepared cloves into a food processor and turn the processor on high to chop the them. Use a knife to chop the garlic by hand if you do not have a food processor. Finely chop the garlic before you cook it.
-
Step 4
Pour olive oil or melted butter into the skillet until it covers the bottom of the pan. Place the skillet on the stove and turn up the heat. Place the chopped garlic in the skillet and stir frequently with a slotted spoon.
-
Step 5
Remove the garlic when it is a golden brown. Leave the remaining oil in the pan if you plan to use it to cook your fish entrée.
