How to Make a Cafe Macchiato

If you're looking for a new twist on an espresso, try a café macchiato. Although the name may be difficult to pronounce and is even harder to spell, the drink is easy to make. It's a great way to jumpstart the morning, perk up an afternoon or wind down a wonderful evening. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Buy top quality espresso. Use finely ground espresso beans and brew in an espresso machine, a stovetop press or a coffee maker.

    • 2

Steam a small amount of milk using a steam wand or by heating the milk on the stovetop. Use a whisk to heat the milk evenly until it's steamy and frothy.

    • 3

Pour the freshly brewed coffee into an espresso cup or a small coffee cup.

    • 4

Mix a teaspoon of sugar into the espresso. Serve the espresso without sugar if you prefer.

    • 5

Top the café macchiato with the frothy steamed milk. There should be about 80 percent coffee and 20 percent milk.

Tips & Warnings

  • Understand that a café macchiato is different from most other coffee drinks containing milk because you don't blend it together, and it contains more coffee than a traditional latte.
