How to Save Your Screen for Future Printing

Silk screening requires advanced preparation of the screens. Since some screen designs take a lot of time to create, they should be saved for future use. Saving a silk screen simplifies the silk-screening process in the future.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep the ink within the image wet during the silk-screening process. Don't allow the ink to dry onto the screen surface. If the ink dries, it will fill in the small holes through which the design transfers and thus ruin the quality of future printings.

  2. Step 2

Apply ink to the screen and pull the ink across the screen. The squeegee will move the wet ink into the porous surface of the screen.

  3. Step 3

Remove the screen from the fabric and apply more wet ink to the screen to keep the surface wet and to avoid drying.

  4. Step 4

Run the ink through the screen as soon as the screen is in position. The ink must be moved through the screen and onto the printing surface to keep the screen clear and ready for the next run.

  5. Step 5

Continue adding ink and printing until the number of intended runs is reached. The ink must be kept fresh during the entire process.

  6. Step 6

Clean the screen thoroughly and hang the screen to allow it to dry. Be sure all the holes have been cleared of ink to prevent the ink from clogging the screen.
