Things You'll Need:
- Face wash
- Comb
- Razor or trimmer
- Trim guard
- Trim guide
- Moisturizer
-
Step 1
Prepare for the trim with daily care of the face and facial hair, including the sideburns. Using warm water, clean the face with a deep-cleansing, nonsoapy face wash that does not include alcohol, like Carol's Daughter Wash-Away the Oil Gentle Face Wash (see Resources below). Even take time to massage the cleanser into your sideburns. This cleansing step makes the hair bristles more accessible by softening and lifting them.
-
Step 2
Pat-dry your face before you cut your hair. Comb the sideburns in the direction the hair grows and use an electric razor or trimmer with a guard attachment to trim them. Hold the trimmer or razor in front of the face vertically. Then trim the sideburns using downward strokes.
-
Step 3
Use a trim guide to achieve symmetrical sideburns on both sides. Just A Trim and Perfect Sideburns are two products that provide attachable hair-trimming guides (see Resources). Both products offer various lengths, so you can change your sideburn style if you choose.
-
Step 4
Apply moisturizer that includes a sunscreen instead of aftershave. Aftershaves have alcohol that dries the skin. Carol's Daughter sells a Face Butter moisturizer you can use after a shave or trim or as a daily moisturizer.
