Things You'll Need:
- Curling iron
- Hair spray
-
Step 1
Select the right-size curling iron to curl hair tendrils. Many curling irons have interchangeable barrels to achieve different types of curls. Use a 3/8-inch barrel to curl short tendrils and wisps to complement and soften your updo.
-
Step 2
Heat your curling iron to the proper setting for your hair. Coarse and curly hair can withstand more heat than fine or chemically treated hair. Read the instructions on your curling iron and practice using your curling iron on short tendrils before the big night to find the optimum heat setting for your hair. Heat your curling iron immediately before you intend to use it for optimum heat and performance.
-
Step 3
Skip the hair spray before using a curling iron to curl tendrils. Hair spray causes short bits of hair to appear unnatural or frizzy when curled. Save the spray for setting your curls after you create a soft curl to complement your updo.
-
Step 4
Open your curling iron and secure the tendril. Slide the curling iron down to the end of the piece of hair and begin to roll your hair around the iron. Stop near your scalp, leaving the root of the hair flat against your head. Hold the curl for 10 seconds, then gently release the curling iron. Allow the curl to fall gently. Repeat on all hair tendrils you want to curl. Spray with hair spray to set the look.
