When you create nail art, you might not own every color you want for every art scene. Sometimes you need to mix two paints together to create a different color or a lighter or darker shade of a color. Learn to mix paint colors together to get the exact color you want.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paints
  • Palette
  • Nail art brush
  1. Step 1

Place small amounts of your desired basic colors on the palette.

  2. Step 2

Dip the nail art brush into one of the colors you want to mix. Pull a small amount of that paint to the side.

  3. Step 3

Dunk the nail art brush into the paint you want to mix with. Pull a small amount of the paint into the paint that you pulled aside in step 2.

  4. Step 4

Lighten or lift a paint color to a different shade by mixing in a small amount of white paint. To darken any color, mix in a darker shade of that particular color.

  5. Step 5

Try the following color combinations to make new colors: yellow and red create orange, yellow and blue make green, blue and red create purple, and blue and green make teal.

  6. Step 6

Make a quick, circular movement with your brush to mix the two paints together. Do this vigorously for 5 to 10 seconds, or until there are no streaks of either original paint color.

  7. Step 7

Check the color. If you like the color you created, use it in your nail art. If you are not satisfied, add in a little more paint and repeat the process until you create the desired color.
