Artists can create realistic characters from photographs with Poser, a 3-D figure creation and animation software. The more accurate the photo, the more realistic the character. Use Photoshop Elements to touch up the photos before importing them into Poser.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a well-lit area for the photographs. Seat the subject in front of a white screen or board. Use at least three lights to reduce shadows. Unlike portrait photography, models must look directly at the camera for the first Poser Face Room photo. Bring the camera down to the model's height. A head on photo works best.

  2. Step 2

Rotate the chair 90 degrees for the right side photo. Place an object for the model to focus on off camera. Adjust lights to remove shadows. The conditions for the second photo must match the first.

  3. Step 3

Load the photos in Photoshop Elements. Place them side by side and zoom to 150 percent. Check the face tones for each photo. Elements "Auto Correction" commands do not give good results, you will need to perform corrections with manual controls.

  4. Step 4

Match the photos for "Brightness/Contrast" level. Use Elements' "Color Variations" for advanced editing.

  5. Step 5

Import photos into the Face Room. Select (front image) right eye, left lip corner, (side image) right ear lobe and front chin to align photos. Use control nodes to map photos to digital model.

Tips & Warnings
  • Digital cameras are best for taking these photos. Review each photo before releasing the model.
  • The facial tones must match. Poser combines both photos to create the texture map.
