Step 1
Learn how to back your vehicle with a boat and trailer on behind. Practice in an empty parking lot somewhere near your home. Don't wait until the day of the boat launch to realize you can't back the trailer.
-
Step 2
Pull into the far end of the boat ramp parking lot. Put in the transom plug, raise the propeller so it doesn't scrape the ramp, hook up the boat's battery, load your gear and get the boat ready to launch. Do not do these activities at the boat ramp. You can expect to upset others waiting to use the ramp if you choose to wait.
-
Step 3
Join the line of vehicles waiting to launch a boat. Watch what others are doing to efficiently launch their boats so you can do the same when it's your turn.
-
Step 4
Back the trailer down the ramp until the boat has enough water to launch it. Set your vehicle's parking brake. Have a friend get into the boat and untie it. Let your friend move the boat to another dock nearby.
-
Step 5
Release the parking brake. Drive your vehicle up the boat ramp and go park in the parking area. Join your friend on the boat and enjoy your day on the water. Repeat these steps in reverse at the end of the day.
