Step 1
Pay close attention through the entire meal to see who seems to be leading the meal. Figure out who asked who to go out to dinner.
-
Step 2
Look for subtle clues such as who orders the more expensive meal or which person seems more comfortable with the situation.
-
Step 3
Ask your customers how they're enjoying the meal. Gauge their progress and ask them shortly after they've each tasted some of their main course.
-
Step 4
Clear their plates when all the customers at the table are finished with their meals. Suggest they try dessert or coffee.
-
Step 5
Know this is when the customers may ask for their bill. Whoever asks should be the one you present the bill to.
-
Step 6
Inquire whether your customers would like the bill. The person who says yes is most likely who you should present it to.
-
Step 7
Place the bill in the middle of the table if you're not sure who is paying. Tell the customers that you'll leave it there and take it whenever they're ready. This will leave them the chance to deal with who's paying for what.
