The bachata originated in the Dominican Republic as a popular style of music. The dance steps came later, but it did not become the popular dance accepted by all until Blas Durán made some wildly popular bachata records with an electric guitar. The rest is history; this dance, which is influenced by the merengue and other Latin rhythms is widely danced today. In this article, you'll learn how to do the right turn of the bachata.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin the right turn bachata dance steps by starting with the basic bachata dance steps.

  2. Step 2

Step to the right with your right foot, step to the right with your left foot, and cross in front of your right foot, then step right again with your right foot and place your left foot beside your right.

  3. Step 3

Go to the left with your left foot, cross over your left foot with your right foot, and step left again with your left foot and place your right foot beside your left.

  4. Step 4

Add the right turn in bachata by stepping to the right with your right foot, pivot on your right foot to the left as you step to the side with your left foot, doing a half turn so that your back is to the center of the room.

  5. Step 5

Move back with your right foot, pivoting on your left foot, so you do another half turn to the left and end up facing the center of the room. Slide the left foot in toward your right foot.

  6. Step 6

Finish the right turn bachata dance steps by doing the basic bachata dance steps to the left.

  7. Step 7

Remember to add a bit of hip to your bachata dance steps and right turns. Once you finish the steps in either direction, thrust your hip to the side in the direction you're going.
