How to Do Forward Back Bachata Dance Steps

After learning the basic bachata dance step, students progress to the forward and back movement. This is very much like simply walking back and forth, with the exception of the hip bump, which still requires some practice before it can be done smoothly.

Instructions

    Forward Bachata Dance Steps

  1. Step 1

    Begin from the basic dance step, ending with the hip bump on either the left or right side or after performing the back bachata dance steps.

  2. Step 2

    Step forward on your left foot, leading or being led by your partner.

  3. Step 3

    Step forward on your right foot.

  4. Step 4

    Step forward on your left foot.

  5. Step 5

    Leave your right foot behind your left, and bump your hip in the direction of your right (back) foot.

  6. Back Bachata Dance Steps

  7. Step 1

    Begin from the basic dance step, ending with the hip bump on either the left or right side or after performing the forward bachata dance steps.

  8. Step 2

    Step back on your right foot, leading or being led by your partner.

  9. Step 3

    Take a step back on your left foot.

  10. Step 4

    Step back on your right foot.

  11. Step 5

    Leaving your left foot in front of your right foot, bump your hip toward your left (forward) foot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Generally, bachata moves such as the side basic and forward and back basic are done in sets, four counts in one direction and four counts in the other before changing.
