Once you have mastered the side to side cumbia dance steps, you can start doing them with your partner. One important aspect of these steps is the arm movements is making them resemble ocean waves. This is quite fitting for a dance that originated along the Caribbean coast.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand before you partner as you prepare to do the side to side partner cumbia dance steps, and take her hands in yours. You should stand enough apart so that you both have room to move, but not so that your arms are stretched out straight.

  2. Step 2

Step to the side with your left foot as your partner steps to the side with her right foot. Slide your right foot over to meet your left, then step again to the side with your left foot. You partner will do the same, but only in mirror fashion.

  3. Step 3

Slide your right foot over part way to meet your left foot, then step to the right and to the side. Your partner will move with you, stepping to her left as you do the side to side partner cumbia dance steps.

  4. Step 4

Move your arms in a way that resembles ocean waves. Rock your clasped hands side to side with your partner. As you are moving to the left, make the rocking swing to the left a little hirer than the swing in the other direction. As you move to the right, make the rocking swing to the right a little higher than the swing to the left. This will help add a softness and roundness to your side to side partner cumbia steps.
