There are several ways to drop into a ramp in skateboarding. Any way you can get on without falling and looking like a doofus in front of your pals is a good way. A very basic skill of getting on is called the Tail Drop. As this is the most used way of dropping in, you need to learn this and do it with confidence.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Tick your board onto the edge of the ramp from the top. Your back truck (wheels) will be flush against the ramp's coping. Hold the board with your back foot so that the board's tail rests on the top of the pipe or ramp.

  2. Step 2

Lift your front foot and simply step out. Put your foot down right above the bolts of the front truck.

  3. Step 3

Lean forward. There's no going back now. Shift your body weight over the front truck and push down. This is a little bit tricky, but you'll at the same time you shift forward to let gravity do her thing, you also want to keep your balance over the center of the board. You can't get the nose downward if you lean too far backward, plus you'll lose your front footing.

  4. Step 4

Apply strong pressure to the front foot. Whatever else you do, keep that foot on the board or the fall is going to hurt.

  5. Step 5

Drop into the ramp while you steadily push the board's nose down. Once the front wheels touch the ramp, the ramp is yours and you can smartly roll into your next primo trick.
