Clown costumes are classic whether they are used for Halloween, for a children's party or as part of a carnival. Clothing is an essential part of any clown costume, but even more essential is great makeup. Most clown costumes involve a face that is based in white.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cleanser
  • Towel
  • Water
  • Clean cosmetic sponge
  • White costume makeup
  • Headband
  • Old towel or cape
  • Mirror
  1. Step 1

Wash and dry your face. Put on the top portion of your clown costume. Cover the costume with an old towel or cape.

  2. Step 2

Pull your hair back in a ponytail, or put a headband in your hair to secure all of your hair away from your face.

  3. Step 3

Dampen a clean cosmetic sponge with water. Squeeze out excess water, leaving the sponge just barely wet.

  4. Step 4

Rub the cosmetic sponge in the white makeup. Smooth the makeup on beginning at the hairline. Use your fingers to apply the makeup when a cosmetic sponge is unavailable.

  5. Step 5

Fill in the forehead, nose, cheeks, ears and chin with white makeup. Apply the makeup to the jaw line and neck. Let the makeup set according to the manufacturer instructions.

  6. Step 6

Look at your face in the mirror. Reapply the white makeup to any areas that need touching up.

  7. Step 7

Apply a setting powder to your face to keep the white makeup from bleeding into other colors and coming off with perspiration. Continue applying the remainder of your clown makeup once the white makeup has set.
