When changing your guitar strings, it is important to minimize the stretching of the strings. This can cause slack which will make playing harder and the sound looser. Follow a few simple tips to minimize the stretching of your guitar strings next time you change them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Purchase the new set of guitar strings for your electric guitar, then remove the old ones according to the manufacturer's directions. Make sure not to damage the body or the neck of the guitar. Check the pegs for any damage. If there is none, you are ready to install the new strings.
Step2
Take the new strings out of their packaging and inspect them to make sure there is no damage. If there is, take them back to the store and exchange them. Also, make sure they are the right strings for your style of guitar.
Step3
Avoid using an installation method that requires you to wrap the strings around the tuning pegs multiple times. This will increase the time it takes for the strings to "break in", and cause the guitar to go out of the tune more often as they stretch to where they need to rest.
Step4
Wrap the string around the corresponding tuning nut clockwise and underneath the string. This should be done after you have successfully installed the string to the body of the electric guitar. Bring the string over itself and wrap around counter clockwise to form a kink and lock on the string. Tighten the nut to enhance the kink and cause the string to lock down on itself.
Step5
Repeat this process for each string as you install them.
