Things You'll Need:
- Folder or binder to store receipts
-
Step 1
Read the fine print when buying anything online, so that you know what their return policy is. Some retailers allow returns during the first 45 days after the transaction, while some will allow them during the first 90 days. No matter what the time limit is, nearly all retailers require a receipt for returns or exchanges. Without one, you will probably be stuck with your purchase if you decide that you don't want it when it arrives.
-
Step 2
Save and print the email receipt if the company sends you one. It should come to your email inbox very quickly after completing your purchase.
-
Step 3
Copy the information on the receipt either from the webpage that shows that your order is complete or from your email and transfer it to a word processing program if you don't want to print directly from the webpage.
-
Step 4
Put the printed copies in a safe place. Have either a pocket folder, binder or folder in a filing cabinet for receipts that you want to keep so that you don't lose them.
-
Step 5
Sort through the receipts a few times a year and toss any that belong to items that you no longer have, you know you won't want to return or if the time allowed for returns or exchanges has passed.
