The wings on the Hayward Aquabug are designed to maintain the width of the cleaner's suction area. They lay against the vinyl bottom of the pool pulling in any debris that crosses their path as the Aquabug runs through its cleaning cycle. Because they are in constant contact with the pool surface, they wear out sooner than most of the other components. Here's how to replace them.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flat-bladed screwdriver
  • 1 set of new wings
  1. Step 1

Turn the Aquabug upside down on a work bench to access the wings.

  2. Step 2

Check the wings for wear by examining the outer edge of each wing. A wear guide line is molded into the outer side of each wing about ΒΌ inch up from the bottom edge. When the wing is worn up to the guide line, it's time to replace it.

  3. Step 3

Remove a wing by locating the pod plug located just above the wing in the side of the pod. This plug acts as a keeper to prevent the wing from floating up and coming off its hooks while the Aquabug is operating. Use a flat head screwdriver to pop the plug out, and lift the wing off the hooks.

  4. Step 4

Install the new wing by lining up the two holes over the hooks and pushing it down onto the hooks.

  5. Step 5

Insert the pod plug back into its hole and tap it in with the butt of the screwdriver, and wiggle the wing up and down to be sure it swings freely.

  6. Step 6

Repeat Steps 3, 4 and 5 for the other wing.
