The shroud is the outer cover of the Hayward Aquabug, and it's the colorful shell that gives the Aquabug it's buggy personality. It houses and protects all the mechanisms that makes the Aquabug an efficient and effective pool cleaner. Removing it involves disassembling all the cleaner's working parts. Here's how to do it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Electric drill with a 1/4-inch drive bit holder and a Phillip's head bit
  1. Step 1

Lay the Aquabug upside down on the work bench to access the bottom assembly. Get out your electric drill and a Phillip's head bit to remove screws from the Aquabug.

  2. Step 2

Remove the 5 screws holding the bottom suction plate, the throat and the bottom assembly to the unit. Pull the bottom unit out with your fingers and set it aside. Put all the screws in a container to keep them together as you remove them.

  3. Step 3

Locate the 6 screws holding the base plate in place (3 screws on each side). Remove all 6 screws, place them in the container and pull off the base plate and bumper. Set the base plate assembly aside.

  4. Step 4

Turn the Aquabug right side up while holding your hand against the lower middle body section. The entire lower middle body assembly will drop into your hand. Set it aside and turn the Aquabug upside down again.

  5. Step 5

Observe the 4 screws holding the upper middle body to the shroud. They are located near each corner of the upper middle body. Remove these small screws and place them in the container.

  6. Step 6

Place one hand over the upper middle body to support it and turn the Aquabug over carefully, keeping your other hand on the top of the shroud. Be careful not to let the upper middle body assembly fall out because all the remaining parts are now loose.

  7. Step 7

Grasp the rear of the shroud. There's a small protrusion straight back from the bug's head you can use as a sort of handle. Keep one hand against the bottom of the upper middle body and shake the shroud gently. The upper middle body and all the remaining components will drop into your hand as you lift the shroud away and set it aside.
