The A-frames of a Hayward Aquabug each have 2 rollers at the top, which spin against the turbine and transmit power to the Aquabug's pods and feet. This makes the pods and feet move up and down, propelling the cleaner around the pool bottom during the cleaning cycle. Here's how to remove the A-frames.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flat headed screwdriver
  • Electric drill with a 1/4-inch drive bit holder and Phillip's head bit
  1. Step 1

Turn the Aquabug upside down on the work bench to access the bottom of the cleaner.

  2. Step 2

Remove the 5 stainless steel screws holding the bottom to the rest of the cleaner.

  3. Step 3

Remove the bottom suction plate and the rubber throat and gently pull the bottom assembly out away from the rest of the cleaner.

  4. Step 4

Set the bottom assembly feet side down on the work bench. Remove the pods by inserting the electric drill's ΒΌ-inch drive bit holder (after removing the Phillip's head bit) into the hole in the center of each pod. Place the bit holder over the hex-headed screw to back it out.

  5. Step 5

Pry each pod off the shaft gently by inserting a flat bladed screwdriver between the frame and the pod. Twist the blade slightly to pop the pod off the shaft and set the pods aside.

  6. Step 6

Remove the Teflon washer from each shaft by prying it gently with the flat-headed screwdriver.

  7. Step 7

Remove the single screw holding the A-frames in place with the electric drill and Phillip's head bit. Lift out the screw, lock washer and upper bearing shield. Pull each A-frame toward the center of the unit to pull the shaft out of the frame hole and remove the A-frames for inspection or replacement.
