If the Hayward Aquabug is acting sluggish or not moving at all during the cleaning cycle, the problem may be that it has tried to pick up an object too large to pass through the throat in the suction hole. If this is the case, you'll have to remove the object by hand. Here's how to do it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillip's head screwdriver or power drill with a Phillip's head bit
  1. Step 1

Turn off the pool pump and remove the Aquabug from the pool. Disconnect the hose assembly from the leader hose. Turn the unit upside down on the deck or a work bench.

  2. Step 2

Remove the Aquabug's bottom plate located at the center of the bottom. Three screws hold the bottom plate in place. Remove the screws with a Phillip's head screwdriver or a power drill with a Phillip's head bit.

  3. Step 3

Put the screws into a coffee can or other container so they don't roll away. Pull off the bottom plate to reveal the Aquabug's rubber throat.

  4. Step 4

Pull the rubber throat out with your fingers and remove any debris stuck inside. Check the throat to be sure it isn't damaged or torn.

  5. Step 5

Look down into the intake hole to be sure a stick, leaf or pebble hasn't passed through the throat and become lodged in the intake hole. Remove any obstruction with your fingers.

  6. Step 6

Reset the rubber throat back into the suction hole, replace the bottom plate so the 3 screw holes line up properly and screw the bottom plate back in place.
