Maintaining a Hayward Aquabug is important to keeping it performing properly and cleaning the vinyl lined pool thoroughly. Generally, you'll simply be able to look carefully at all the visible parts to be sure it's in good shape. The unit should give you an indication when you'll need to replace some of the parts. Here's what to look for.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Watch the Aquabug as it runs around the pool bottom during the cleaning cycle. It runs in a random pattern so that it cleans the entire bottom twice during each cleaning cycle. If it stops, slows down or gets stuck in one position during the cycle, it's time to turn off the pool pump and take the unit out of the water to check it.

  2. Step 2

Lay the Aquabug upside down on the deck or a work bench.

  3. Step 3

Check the rubber feet first. The Aquabug has four feet designed to keep the unit up off the pool bottom and propel the Aquabug around the pool. If the feet appear worn, it's time to replace them.

  4. Step 4

Look at the front and back flaps. The flaps are spring loaded and maintain proper suction of the front and rear cleaning area. Push each flap gently down toward the center of the Aquabug's base plate. It should spring back freely into position when you release it and sit at a 45-degree angle relative to the flat bottom. If the lower edge of the flap looks excessively worn or the spring is broken or worn out, replace the flap.

  5. Step 5

Examine each soft plastic wing, located at each side of the Aquabug's bottom. The wings maintain the width of the unit's cleaning area. Wiggle the wings gently to be sure they move freely. Each wing has a wear indicator line about ΒΌ inch up from the lower edge. If the wing shows wear up to the line, replace it.

  6. Step 6

Look into the center hole in the bottom of the Aquabug to be sure a stick, large leaf or other debris isn't stuck in the throat. Remove any obstruction.
