How to Install the Bumper on a Hayward Aquabug

By eHow Contributing Writer

Installing a new bumper on a Hayward Aquabug base plate requires no tools. The bumper allows the Aquabug to spin freely inside the bumper so it can change directions to get out of corners or around obstacles such as steps and ladders in the pool. If the bumper doesn't work properly, the Aquabug can easily get stuck. Here's how to replace the bumper.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Examine the bumper guard and note that it has a ridge on the inside about two-thirds of the way in from the topside. Lay the bumper on the work bench, so this ridge is up. In other words, the bottom side of the bumper is up.

  2. Step 2

Check the rollers on the base plate. Each roller should spin freely. Make sure none of the rollers are cracked or worn. Hold the base plate over the bumper ring with the rollers facing down.

  3. Step 3

Line up the 6 tabs on the base plate with the 6 slots on bottom of the bumper. Angle one of the tabs into one of the slots and begin snapping the other 5 tabs into the bumper's remaining 5 slots one at a time until you have snapped all 6 tabs into all 6 slots. Press down gently at each tab to snap it into each slot.

  4. Step 4

Pick up the base plate assembly and hold it in the center with one hand. With the other hand, spin the bumper to be sure it spins freely against all the rollers.
