The A-frames on a Hayward Aquabug sit in the bottom assembly with the legs of the A's up. On the end of each leg is a roller that spins against the turbine as it turns, transmitting power to the pods and shoes. The A-frame assembly includes a top and bottom bushing and two shaft bushings. Here's how to install the A-frames.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillips head screw driver
  1. Step 1

Set the bottom assembly on the work bench, flat side down.

  2. Step 2

Spin the rollers on both A-frames before installing them to be sure the roller bearings are in good shape. Each A-frame has a plastic shaft on one side and a metal shaft on the other. Inspect the shafts for wear before installing them. If you notice wearing or scoring on the shafts, you'll need to replace the A-frame.

  3. Step 3

Set the bottom A-frame bushing into the slot in the bottom of the bottom housing. This bushing has a cradle molded into it. The metal shaft of each A-frame lies in this cradle.

  4. Step 4

Put one A-frame in place by pushing the plastic shaft through the hole in the side of the bottom housing and place the metal shaft into the bushing cradle.

  5. Step 5

Insert a shaft bushing over the plastic shaft protruding through the outside of the bottom housing. Notice that this bushing has one flat section on the outside. Line this flat section up with the flat section of the hole and push the bushing over the shaft all the way into the hole.

  6. Step 6

Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to install the other A-frame in the opposite side. Both A-frames are now in their proper position and are ready to secure into place.

  7. Step 7

Lay the upper bushing down over the two metal A-frame shafts and line the screw tab up with the screw hole in the bottom frame. Insert the screw, lock washer into the hole and tighten it with the Phillip's head screwdriver.

  8. Step 8

Rock the two A-frames back and forth to be sure they rock freely.
