When you walk into someone's house or apartment, the décor is key to first impressions. Wall hangings of all sizes generally make up a large portion of the interior design. Art often creates a sophisticated and visually appealing atmosphere, so plan out the best places to hang pictures throughout your home.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Picture-hanging hooks
  • Nails, screws and wall anchors
  • Hammer
  1. Step 1

Make a rough layout of your walls on paper to arrange the positioning of all your pictures. Cut templates of pictures to test out the positioning. Set aside pictures for each room with all the materials you need for hanging once you finalize your plan.

  2. Step 2

Establish the desired height to hang the pictures. Typically it's eye level, or around 57 inches. Measure the space from the ceiling or trim to the top of each frame as your reference. Mark the spot on the wall coinciding with the top of the picture.

  3. Step 3

Analyze each of your frames individually. Measure the placement of holes or hooks for pictures. Start with the space from the top of the frame to the hook. Using your mark on the wall, subtract this space and make another mark to match the locations for hanging.

  4. Step 4

Hammer nails, hangers or other hardware into the wall. Hang picture and use a level to check for alignment. Erase your marks from the wall and duplicate steps with other pictures to match.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use wall studs to hang pictures, especially heavier ones, whenever possible.
  • Be careful with frames with wire for hanging. This may alter where to make your hanger mark.
  • Always wear safety goggles when working with the hammer and nails.
