A microwave oven is a must in almost every kitchen. It cuts down on the amount of time it takes to prepare a meal. However, you must also clean your microwave after each meal. If you don't clean it well, you will run the risk of attracting a food-borne illness. The racks are an important part to get clean, so here are steps on how to clean microwave racks.

From Quick Guide: Microwave Cleaning 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remove the rack from the microwave oven and place it in the sink.

  2. Step 2

Wet the rack with warm water. Make sure the entire rack is wet.

  3. Step 3

Apply dish washing liquid to a wet sponge and wipe each bar of the rack. Then, wipe all the way around the rack. Make sure you get the corners well because these are the parts that will actually touch the microwave wall. Scrub to get off any baked-on food or debris.

  4. Step 4

Rinse the soap from the rack. Make sure you remove all of the soap from each of the bars on the rack.

  5. Step 5

Dry the rack with a clean towel or allow it to air dry completely before putting it back in the microwave.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not store the rack inside the microwave. It is best to remove the rack and store it in a safe place when not in use.
  • Do not use a heavy duty steel wool pad to clean the racks. These pads have metal pieces in them and if a piece of the pad is left on the rack in the microwave, it could spark or catch fire when the microwave is on.
