Live oak acorns are easy to germinate once viable acorns have been located. When planting the live oak acorns it's best to imitate nature as closely as possible to insure the planted live oak acorns grow into trees.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather healthy live oak acorns by examining each acorn to guarantee it does not have holes, or is damaged by disease. It's critical to have healthy acorns before planting.

  2. Step 2

Wash the live oak acorns carefully with a mild soap solution. The washing process arrests the development of any harmful fungus or bacteria.

  3. Step 3

Fill a large growing container with fresh soil and water the soil thoroughly before planting the live oak acorns. The container should be large enough to support the live oak acorns growth for several weeks or more.

  4. Step 4

Plant the live oak acorns in the growing container half way down into the soil. Leave the top half of the acorn exposed above the ground. This is the way acorns sprout and grow in nature and is the most effective way to grow live oaks from acorns.

  5. Step 5

Water the growing acorns carefully to avoid damaging the seedlings and be sure to provide adequate sunlight and proper temperature.
