Dying eggs for Easter celebrations and decorations has been around for centuries, starting in Europe. There are many ways to decorate dyed eggs including using stockings, or pantyhose, to wrap around the eggs before placing them in the dye. This gives them interesting designs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use knee high stockings to add flair and design to a dyed egg. Drop the egg into the stocking and tie the top in a knot. Place the eggs in the desired colors and leave them for a few minutes to dye. The longer you leave the eggs in the dye, the darker the color will be.

  2. Step 2

Take the eggs out of the dye and allow them to dry completely before working with the stocking. If you remove or mess with the stocking before the egg is completely dry, it will cause the dye to rub or smudge.

  3. Step 3

Cut the knot off the top of the stocking and slide the egg out of the stocking holder it was in. The egg should slide right out without sticking to the stocking. If it does stick a little, just tug on the stocking a bit to get it to come loose. The dye should stay in place, but use caution just in case.

  4. Step 4

Coat the finished eggs in oil to give a high gloss shine and protect the dye on the eggs and they are ready to display. These are a great addition to any Easter centerpiece, or make a great gift.
