Decorating eggs is a widespread and treasured Easter tradition. Add flare and individuality to your decorated eggs by using fresh flowers as templates before putting your eggs in dye. The color from the flowers will not dye the eggs, but will serve as a color block to the dye. Attach fresh flowers to Easter eggs to achieve brilliant and individual effects on each egg.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hard boiled or blown eggs
  • Fresh flowers
  • Fresh leaves
  • Butcher paper or old towel
  • Cup of water
  • Clean nylon stocking
  • Scissors
  • Egg dye
  • Paper towels
  1. Step 1

Boil the eggs until they are thoroughly cooked, or use blown eggs. Rinse the eggs and gently towel them dry.

  2. Step 2

Lay an old towel or butcher paper down on your work surface. Gently lay the eggs on the work surface, along with the other egg dying supplies.

  3. Step 3

Choose a flower or leaf to start with. Dip the flower into the cup of water. Lay the flower on the eggshell, and gently smooth it into place. Try to remove as many bubbles from under the flower as possible.

  4. Step 4

Continue to add small flowers and/or leaves to the egg until the desired design in reached. Dip each flower or leaf in the water before applying it to the egg. Smooth them gently in place, using caution not to disturb the previously applied flowers.

  5. Step 5

Cut a piece of nylon stocking that is a few inches longer than the egg. Tie a small knot in the bottom of the stocking.

  6. Step 6

Stretch the stocking out wide with one hand. Pick up the embellished egg and slide it in the stocking, being careful not to move the flowers. Let the stocking close around the egg and hold the flowers in place.

  7. Step 7

Put the egg in the desired dye. Let it set until the color is reached. Remove the egg and blot it dry with a paper towel. Remove the nylon and the flowers.
