RC (remote control) cars are one of the fastest growing hobbies around. Cars now come in hundreds of different styles, including different body types. Before you head online or to the nearest hobby store, think about which RC car body you want.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Decide what model of RC car or truck body you like the best. There's no right or wrong here; it's a matter of personal taste. Nearly every major auto manufacturer is available as a body.
Step2
Choose between a truck or car body before you visit the store. Truck bodies are more durable and capable of racing on rougher terrain, while car bodies are more suited for paved surfaces.
Step3
Pick the scale that you want. RC cars are available in 1:8, 1:10, 1:12 and 1:18, which can limit the body that you buy.
Step4
Look for pre-painted RC car bodies if you don't have the time or inclination to completely design and paint a body from scratch.
Step5
Set a budget and stick to it. A customized RC car body can easily cost a few hundred dollars, but having a budget in mind can make the process easier by cutting down your choices.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep in mind that once you buy an RC car or truck, changing the body can be a great way to customize your vehicle. You can make it look like your dream car, replicate the car you drive or honor your favorite sports team.
  • If you are looking for the ultimate in customizing, pick up a plain body and paint it yourself. Since the bodies are completely clear, you can paint the inside of the vehicle to protect it from scratches and damage.
  • Remember that a new body can seriously change the handling on your RC car. Using a body style similar to the one you currently have will make the transition easier.
  • If you chose to customize your RC body, never use an ordinary paint. Always use a paint specially created for RC bodies.
