Step 1
Look at the differences between a pistol and stick radio. Stick radios usually come with pre-built package RC cars, but most people find a pistol radio easier to use.
-
Step 2
Try out a few different radios before you commit to buy. The RC car transmitter should be comfortable and easy to grip without feeling any pressure on your hand.
-
Step 3
Ask about a specialty radio for your RC car if you're left handed. There are left-handed transmitters available, but your local hobby shop may need to order one if they don't carry them in stock.
-
Step 4
Make sure the antennae on the radio can be adjusted. A smaller antennae limits the range of your RC car.
-
Step 5
Choose a radio that comes complete with everything you need, including two servos, a transmitter, receiver and servo horns. If you aren't sure, ask the owner of the shop for help.
-
Step 6
Check to see that the radio works with the receiver on your RC car. If the two sides aren't compatible, it will take a significant amount of time and money to run your car.
