How to Order a Wig

Wear a wig to change your hairstyle without changing your actual hair. Wigs are available in numerous styles, colors and materials. Know your wig size before you order a new wig to ensure a perfect fit every time.

Instructions

1. Find your wig size before you order a new wig. Visit a local wig shop for a fitting or use a tape measure to find your size at home. Hold the tape measure to the middle point on your forehead at the hairline. Follow your hairline over the top of your ear, around the base of your neck, over your other ear, until you end where you started. Note the measurement. Take the measurement of the crown of your head. Start at your hairline, measure over the top of your head, and end at the base of your skull where your hair ends. Finally, take the measurement of your hairline from the top of one ear to the top of your other ear. The measuring tape should look like a headband for this measurement.

2. Visit local wig shops and shop online at retailers such as WigShop (see Resources below). Compare the prices, styles and materials of different wigs. Consider synthetic hair wigs for their price and ease of use. Look at human hair wigs for their styling possibilities and texture. Expect to pay more for a top of the line human hair wig that you can curl and perm.

3. Call your wig shop to place an order or order online. Use your wig measurements to select the proper size for your wig. Order the wig that fits your largest measurement if your head measurements do not conform to standard sizing. Most wigs are adjustable up to 1 inch. Be sure to specify the size, color and style of the wig you intend to purchase.
