Creating memories as you build your snowman can be a lot of fun. Taking the extra time to capture those memories with a camera can help you to remember them for years to come. Your children will love remembering all of the snowmen that they built. Take pictures throughout the entire process.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
White balance your camera so that the color of the snow shows up correctly. You can do this manually in the settings on your camera.
Step2
Overexpose your film when you are focusing primarily on the snow. This will help you to capture the color of snow correctly.
Step3
Expose your shots so the people will show up correctly when you are taking pictures with people in them. This exposure may wash out the snow a bit, but makes a better picture.
Step4
Plan for contrast in the snow. Contrast makes for a better picture, so use bright or deep colors to decorate your snowman. This will cause the picture to really pop when it is developed.
Step5
Use your flash. This will help to even out the light and dark areas of your snowman. This will help to prevent faces from appearing in the shadows.
Step6
Use a tripod to keep longer shots steady. Be sure that the tripod is secure before you let go of the camera.

Tips & Warnings

  • Carry extra batteries. Batteries die more quickly in the cold. Be sure to have batteries on hand so that you can quickly change them.
  • Dress your children up to match the snowman. These pictures can create some fun memories.
