Remember, everything tastes better outdoors, so even your pickiest eaters may surprise you with their enthusiasm. Be sure to pack plenty of food--hiking and exploring work up a big appetite. Here are some suggestions that are sure to be hits.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

An easy favorite with kids: hot dogs and hamburgers. Make the patties beforehand and keep in a cooler until ready to grill. (See eHow’s “How to Grill Hamburgers and Hot Dogs” for details.)

  2. Step 2

If you have a griddle or pan, try grilled cheese (if backpacking, opt for quesadillas because tortillas won’t get squished in your pack).

  3. Step 3

Likewise, tortillas with peanut butter and honey are a squish-proof alternative to traditional PB&J sandwiches.

  4. Step 4

Foil packets let kids choose their own ingredients. Fill packets with your favorite meat, potatoes and veggies (or not). Add a little seasoning and butter or olive oil and cook over the fire.

  5. Step 5

Individual pizzas are an easy option. Use pita bread as crust, then add sauce, cheese and toppings. You can heat them in a Dutch oven or over a foil-covered grill.

  6. Step 6

Morning favorites include pancakes and biscuits with gravy. Scrambled eggs and bacon are easy to cook outside.

  7. Step 7

For snack time, pack fruit that doesn’t bruise easily such as apples, grapes or watermelon. Granola and dried fruit snacks are easy to carry on hikes.

  8. Step 8

And what’s a campout without s’mores? For tips on making this unforgettable classic, see the eHow “How to Make S’Mores.”
