How to View Checks Online

If you sign up for online banking, viewing checks online is usually offered as a free service. Images of both the front and back of checks may be available. Only checks you write, not checks you cashed, are available electronically. Check with your bank to find out how quickly check images are available online.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Enroll as an online banking customer. You may need to do this over the phone or simply create a login and password at your bank's website.
Step2
Log in and select your checking account number. There will be several accounts listed if you have more than one account at that bank.
Step3
Select you most recent statement to see all the checks that just cleared. You may have the option of enlarging images for greater clarity.
Step4
Search by a specific check number or date, if that functionality is offered. Check images may not be available after a specific length of time, such as 60 days. Find out what your bank's policy is regarding image storage.
Step5
Print or save the check image to your hard drive if you need a permanent record of posted checks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you can access bank accounts online, opt out of receiving paper statements and check images to cut down on paper and filing.
