The Hacker's Diet, available in an electronic book format over the web by John Walker, show you how to lose weight by applying simple dieting philosophies to your life. Basically you count calories as a way to control how much weight you gain or lose.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read the electronic version of the Hacker's Diet. Before counting calories, you'll want to read the book to see what type of research the author has done to support the claims of the diet. Read the book in its entirety on the Fourmilab website (see Resources).

  2. Step 2

Count the calories of each food or drink you consume. To follow the Hacker's Diet, you'll have to keep a detailed log of the calories found in everything you eat. If you're unsure of a food's calorie count, you can look it up through an online calorie counter.

  3. Step 3

Subtract the number of calories you burn from the number of calories you eat. When you exercise, you burn a certain number of calories. Measure the number of calories you burn and subtract that from your food intake. The quotient will indicate the amount you will gain or lose on the Hacker's Diet.

  4. Step 4

Make adjustments based on your gender, height and natural build. If you're a man, taller or have a heavier build, you're going to burn more than your counterparts. You may want to adjust the amount of calories you consume based on this consideration.

Tips & Warnings
  • The author of the Hacker's Diet has no medical or nutritional background. You may want to consider this prior to counting calories on the Hacker's Diet.
  • To keep track of your calories, Walker recommends utilizing Excel spreadsheets. You can also use other spreadsheet programs to record your progress.
